EU Food Waste Reaches High Levels Across Member States
The overall volume rose by 0.7% compared with the previous year, according to figures released Tuesday.
Households were responsible for the largest share, accounting for 53% of all food waste, or around 69 kilograms per person.
Food and beverage manufacturers generated 19% of the total, equivalent to 25 kilograms per inhabitant.
Restaurants and other food service businesses accounted for 12%, producing about 15 kilograms per person.
Primary production and retail distribution each represented 8% of total food waste, with both sectors generating roughly 10 kilograms per inhabitant.
